Installing and playing

From download to your first server in a few minutes.

Before you start

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • GTA V, the original edition (GTA5.exe), build 1.0.3889.0, from Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or Epic Games Store. GTA V Enhanced is not supported.
  • Start GTA V story mode once before using next:mp, so that your store has finished its own first-run setup.

Install

  1. Download the launcher from Download and extract the archive into its own folder.
  2. Start nextmp.exe. The small window checks every file against the signed release record and installs updates. If a file is damaged or missing it repairs it.
  3. On the first start, choose the folder that contains GTA5.exe. The launcher remembers it; you can change it in Settings.

Settings, caches and logs live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\next:mp, not next to the launcher, so updates never overwrite them.

Join a server

  • Servers lists public servers with players, language, mode and ping. Search, filters and sorting work the same as on this site.
  • Favorites and Recent keep the servers you liked or visited.
  • Direct connect takes an address such as play.example.org:22005. Copy it from the server's page on this site or from its owner.

The game starts only when you choose a server. The launcher hides while you play and comes back when the game exits. A password-protected server asks for its password first.

In the game

  • The in-game menu lets you reconnect, change servers, and read the chat.
  • F8 opens the read-only console with the client log.
  • Everything else — commands, interfaces, rules — belongs to the server you joined.

Steam and Epic copies

A Steam copy of GTA V needs Steam running and signed in; the launcher starts it and waits. Rockstar and Epic copies are started through the Rockstar Games Launcher, which the launcher prepares and, by default, closes once the game has loaded next:mp.

Your identity on servers

A server you join sees the name you choose, your IP address, the player name GTA V reports, a fingerprint derived from your Windows installation, and a report on whether your next:mp files are intact. If it asks, it also gets a device key proof: a signature from a key kept on your PC (in its TPM when available), named differently on every server. Reset that key with nextmp.exe --reset-device-identity. See Privacy.

If something goes wrong

See Common error messages. The launcher can create a diagnostics file with logs and system details; attach it when you ask for support.
